Huyam is the Arabic word for ardent, insanity-leading love. Flanked by panels as distressed as they are fiery, the statement blazened in gold is a refrain from a popular Umm Kalthoum song penned by her favored songwriter, spiritual partner and long term lover: Ahmed Ramy. Their love affair was a thing of both spectacle and speculation, over whose state generations of tongues wagged and much ink was spilled.

In a nod to the motifs of an Ottoman rug, our “Huyam” Mirror displays the traditional Turkish technique of drawing on the backside of glass. Huyam, incidentally, is also the fictionalized Arabic name of a notorious Turkish figure: Hurrem Sultan, wife and lover of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. A woman best known for two things: her fiery-hair and for having led a man and his entire empire to insanity in her wake.
—Huyam Mirror :: مرآة هُيام

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0653/6400/0835/files/DSC05932_5804927f-0d37-4ee5-8db6-d53866a950e8.jpg?v=1763639898
