Product description

In this nocturnal chamber of remembrance, a lone dervish sits suspended between breath and eternity. No one can say if he sleeps, prays, dreams, or dissolves — for in the Sufi path, these states often blur into one shimmering threshold. His head rests gently upon his shoulder, his body surrendered, but his spirit wide awake.

Around him, the unseen world blooms: angels arc through indigo skies, wings etched in gold; the Burāq, luminous and swift, emerges from the clouds; the very steed that carried the Prophet on the Meraj, the sacred Night Journey. These visions do not descend from outside; they rise from within, summoned by the soft drumbeat of dhikr, the remembrance that unravels the veil between the earthly and the divine.

This miniature captures a moment of inward ascension. The dervish performing his own lower case meraj, climbing not through heavens but through states of the heart. For the mystic, the celestial realm is not distant; it is a landscape of the mind, revealed only when the self becomes quiet enough to listen.

Original miniature portrait (Origin: Bukhara), framed in double-glass frames (front and back viewable) to preserve both pigment and light. Dimensions: 44 cm x 35 cm.
