Product description

In this radiant courtyard, scenes from the Shahnameh (the Book of Kings) unfold not as distant legend but as living ritual. Under a canopy of blossom trees and a sky washed in pale gold, women gather in circles of music, storytelling, and ceremony. Their garments shimmer like spring itself, and the tiled architecture around them, in deep lapis, sapphire, and gold, evokes the grandeur of the Persian courts where poets and sovereigns shaped the memory of empires. Within the arched chamber, a narrator or nobleman sits elevated, reciting, teaching, or commanding the moment, while the women outside prepare the rhythms that animate the gathering.

But behind the elegance lies a deeper truth: in courts such as those of the Timurids, Safavids, and their predecessors, the women of the inner quarters were not mere attendants. They were diplomats behind lattice screens, patrons of poetry, financiers of temples and fortresses, cultivators of alliances, and custodians of memory itself. Their influence flowed quietly but decisively through the veins of power. This miniature captures that delicate equilibrium; the visible festivity, and the invisible authority, woven together in the very same courtyard where myth, music, and statecraft once met.

Original miniature portrait (Origin: Bukhara), framed in double-glass frames (front and back viewable) to preserve both pigment and light. Dimensions: 50 cm x 40 cm.
